DOMESTIC WASTEWATER TREATMENT MEASURES
DOMESTIC WASTEWATER
1. Composition of Domestic Wastewater
- Domestic wastewater is mostly generated from commercial centers, hospitals, offices, schools, supermarkets, etc., and from people's daily activities.
- It contains a high amount of biodegradable organic compounds, inorganic components, microorganisms, and pathogenic bacteria. Organic substances in domestic wastewater account for about 50-60% of the total substances, including both animal and plant organic matter.
- However, the volume of wastewater is determined by the number of employees, customers, food stalls, and the scale of each type of business activity,..
- Sources of Generation: Fresh food areas, cooked food processing areas, wastewater from daily activities and hygiene of employees and customers.
We can see that:
- Oil and grease and TSS treatment: oil and grease separator or flotation tank.
- BOD and COD treatment: aerobic tank.
- N and P treatment: anoxic tank.
- Coliform treatment: sedimentation combined with disinfection or membrane.
2. Treatment Technology
The advanced aerobic combined with anoxic technology is mainly used in domestic wastewater treatment because it ensures the quality of the treated water while saving space and reducing construction and operational costs.
Aerobic Tank: This tank is where the process of removing BOD and converting ammonia to nitrate occurs.
The nitrification process takes place here, where ammonia (NH3, NH4+) is converted into nitrite (NO2) and then into nitrate (NO3, performed by two groups of bacteria Nitrosomonas và Nitrobacter:
* Nitrosomonas bacteria: convert Ammonia to Nitrite. The nitritation stage is the formation of NO2-
NH4+ + 3/2 O2 → NO2- + H2O + 2H+ + energy
* Nitrobacter bacteria: convert Nitrite to Nitrate. The nitratation stage is the formation of NO3-
NO2- + ½ O2 → NO3- + energy
The BOD content in wastewater is treated with the participation of aerobic microorganisms. The BOD removal efficiency can reach 85-90%.
Organic matter + aerobic microorganisms + O2 → CO2 + H2O + New biomass
Anoxic Tank: This tank is responsible for denitrifying nitrate into nitrogen. The anoxic microbial system absorbs nutrients and converts nitrate into free nitrogen. The combination of wastewater and recirculation flow enhances the efficiency of the denitrification process. The conversion to N2 is as follows:
- Bước 1: Convert nitrate to nitrite: 6 + 2CH3OH → 6 + 2CO2 + 4H2O
- Bước 2: Convert nitrite to N2: 6 + 3CH3OH → 3N2 + 3CO2 + 3H2O + 6OH- + 3O2
3. Introduction to BIOCLEAN Products
BIO M5
Highlights:
Contains two specialized strains of microorganisms for the nitrification process:
- Nitrosomonas sp (converts ammonia to nitrite).
- Nitrobacter sp ( continues to convert nitrite to nitrate).
Contains Bacillus Lichenniforms, Bacillus Amyloliquifaciens, Bacillus Subtilis, and the nitrifying bacteria Nitrobacter winogradskyi and Nitropseudomonas europaea at ten times the density of the old formula.
Beneifits:
- Reduces ammonia and total nitrogen output in wastewater treatment systems, enhances the nitrification and denitrification processes.
- Decreases ammonia odor in the system.
- Addresses microbial die-off due to nitrogen shock loads.
BIO M1
Highlights:
- Liquid formula with the latest improvements for BOD, COD, and TSS treatment.
- Origin: USA - Manufacturer: Sun & Earth Microbiology.
- Stable efficiency since 1974.
Benefits:
- Reduces COD, BOD, and suspended solids (SS).
- Decreases sludge volume and difficult-to-decompose compounds.
- Balances effective bacterial communities in activated sludge.
- Reduces and adjusts odor throughout the system.
- Maintains wastewater treatment system performance.
Using a combination of BIO M1 and BIO M5 is the optimal, cost-effective, and efficient solution to eliminate nitrogen in the form of NH4+ to molecular nitrogen. It addresses BOD, COD, TSS, and microbial die-off due to shock loads, ensuring the treated water meets wastewater standards QCVN 14:2008/BTNMT.
4. Product usage instructions
Mixing ratio and Usage:
- The manufacturer recommends using an aerated microbial tank for 12-14 hours before adding to the treatment system.
- Depending on the characteristics of each system, the composition, and properties of the wastewater, appropriate dosage should be used. Please contact technical support for a free consultation.
5. Effectiveness of Product Use
- Reduces COD, BOD, and suspended solids (SS).
- Quickly improves sludge settling rate in the system.
- Decreases sludge volume and difficult-to-decompose compounds.
- Balances effective bacterial communities in activated sludge.
- Reduces and adjusts odor throughout the system.
- Supports the oxidation of nitrogen-containing compounds (nitrification process).
- Maintains wastewater treatment system performance.
****Customer feedback on BIOCLEAN Microorganisms: Fast settling speed, significant improvement in BOD, COD, TSS, and nitrogen indicators, and treated water color meeting standards.
